Kalinga Mardana Krishna Kauthvam is a musical and lyrical composition depicting the story of young Krishna slaying venomous Kaliya, a king cobra in the river Kalindi(Yamuna). Playful Krishna dives into the river to fetch the ball and incidentally locates Kaliya who was disturbing the vicinity. Brave Krishna follows Kaliya and defeats. Looking at this scene the celestial beings admire Krishna for his heroic deed and celebrate the moment praising Krishna. Inspired by the music around, Krishna starts dancing on Kaliya’s head. Kannada lyrics intricately woven with dancing syllables in this beautiful composition describes - Krishna looks cute, bright and shiny, bubbly cheeks, tilaka on his forehead, wearing the anklets, is seen skillfully dancing on Kaliya and thus protects Kalindi and Lakhani serpents, wives of Kalinga.
