The Housing & Development Board (HDB) has been using precast technology since the 1980s to build high-rise homes in Singapore.
Building components are made in a controlled factory environment, before transporting them to construction sites for final assembly.
"Comparing the precast method of construction to the cast-in-situ method, we can achieve about a 30% improvement in productivity," says Teh Poh Suan, director of Engineering Services at HDB.
