Doval made it clear that India wanted to return to negotiations, but only on equal footing. Strategic autonomy, officials said, was non-negotiable. The report suggests Doval’s intervention helped cool tensions, with Trump later praising PM Modi and reopening dialogue. While Trump has now announced tariff reductions and a trade understanding, no formal agreement has been released. India’s position remains clear: partnerships matter, pressure does not, and New Delhi is prepared to wait for a fair deal.
