On Sunday 10th September 2023 Steamrail Victoria operated shuttles on the Alamein Line as part of a charter hosted by the Ashburton Shopping Centre Traders Association. Steamrail operated five shuttle trips between Ashburton and Flinders Street with steam locomotive K183 and the Tait electric multiple unit; with the two trains working together. The shuttles were notable as it was the first time heritage trains have operated heritage shuttles along the Alamein Line since November 2014.
In this video we see K183 & the Tait at multiple locations along the line, including at Ashburton, Camberwell (including shunting into the yard for the lunch break), Glenferrie, Hartwell, Willison, and crossing over the tram square at Riversdale.
