6 federal prosecutors resign after DOJ pressure in Renee Good investigation

Описание: Six federal prosecutors in Minnesota have resigned from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Minnesota amid reported disagreements with the U.S. Department of Justice tied to the investigation into the death of Renee Good, who was shot by an ICE agent in Minneapolis.

The resignations involve concerns about the DOJ’s approach to investigating the agent and an alleged push to investigate Good’s widow.

One of the departing prosecutors is Joe Thompson, a key figure in major Minnesota cases, including the Feeding Our Future federal fraud prosecution.

The resignations are drawing reaction from state and local leaders. Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz and Sen. Amy Klobuchar called the departures a loss for Minnesota and raised concerns about prosecutions being influenced by politics. Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara also issued a statement about the resignations and what they signal for the justice system.

Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche said there is “currently no basis for a criminal civil rights investigation,” and that federal officials have taken sole control of the investigation from the Minnesota BCA, arguing the state does not have jurisdiction.
