WHO surgical safety check list
The World Health Organization (WHO) launched the Surgical Safety Checklist (SSC) in June 2008 to improve patient safety during surgery.
The checklist is a 19-item tool that helps surgical teams remember important tasks to perform before, during, and after surgery. The SSC is divided into three phases:
Sign-in: Before the patient receives anesthesia
Time-out: Before the surgeon makes the incision
Sign-out: Before the patient leaves the operating room
