Watch this interesting SHORT-LENGTH (approx. 2 min., 12 sec.) video showing 2 different Amtrak Northeast Regional trains riding past the West Baltimore MARC train station in Baltimore, Maryland on a bright, sunny autumn day. (1)
The video shows only Amtrak trains, not MARC trains. Both Amtrak trains shown are on the Northeast Regional line. The first train is heading north, has locomotive no. 669, and it has 11 passenger railcars. The second train is traveling south, has locomotive no. 658, and it has 8 passenger railcars.
There are three Amtrak lines that run through West Baltimore MARC train station including Acela and the Northeast Regional, both of which serve the Northeast Corridor, and the Vermonter, with service between Washington, DC and northern Vermont. The Northeast Corridor runs Amtrak trains between Washington, DC and Boston. (2)
The trains shown in this video are the Northeast Regional Amtrak rail line. The Northeast Regional rail line operates mostly with Siemens ACS-64 locomotives, aka Amtrak Cities Sprinter. (3) One can easily see the Acela trains since they have a more aerodynamic shaped locomotives and railcars. (4)
The Amtrak trains that travel through West Baltimore MARC train station use electric power.
The Maryland Area Rail Commuter (MARC) is a commuter rail service that serves the Washington and Baltimore region. (5) The West Baltimore MARC Train Station lies on the Penn Line of MARC, which has three different lines. The Penn Line is the fastest commuter rail line in the US, is the busiest line of the three MARC lines, is the only electrified line, and is the only one that operates on the weekends. (6)
The Baltimore and Washington, DC section of the Northeast Corridor is one of the busiest rail lines in the United States with frequent MARC and Amtrak train service. (6)
