Today we’ll be covering Interactive Live Streaming and how it allows you to create truly real-time, engaging live streams for hundreds of thousands of viewers.

What is Interactive Live Streaming?

Interactive live streaming uses WebRTC to deliver a real-time live streaming experience for as many as 100,000 people. Using WebRTC for interactive live streaming allows for real-time live streams that operate a scale with low-latency, while adding interactivity to improve in-call engagement. Interactive Live Streaming also addresses pain points of “traditional” live streaming, such as removing chat lag, to create a more immersive video experience.

What makes Interactive Live streaming different than “traditional” live streaming?

Live streaming is powered by HLS and involves one host talking to an audience. The audience could be very large, but isn’t always. Live streaming it isn’t nearly as “real time” as a video call is; there is often a lag between and sometimes you’re looking at 30 seconds or more between when a frame of video happens and when the last of the audience members sees it.
