Scientists aboard a boat named “Virginia” film glaciers in 1931. Glaciologist William O. Field, who shot these scenes, was involved in studies in the Prince William Sound region along Alaska's southern coast that year. He and his colleagues extensively examined Columbia Glacier, Harvard Glacier, Harriman Glacier, Meares Glacier, and Valdez Glacier (Black-and-white/Silent/16mm film).
This sequence contains excerpts from AAF-21012 from the William O. Field collection held by the Alaska Film Archives, a unit of the Alaska and Polar Regions Collections & Archives Department in the Elmer E. Rasmuson Library, University of Alaska Fairbanks.
