Install Windows 11 25H2 on Old or Unsupported Laptops (Beginner Friendly)
Hello everyone, welcome back to the channel.
In today’s video, I will show you how to install the latest Windows 11 25H2 on an old laptop or PC, even if it is officially unsupported by Microsoft.
⚠️ Important Note for Beginners
We are not installing Windows directly on the old laptop.
Instead, we will:
Remove the HDD or SSD from the old system
Prepare it using a working Windows computer
Put the disk back into the old system
This method is safe if followed carefully, but one mistake can erase data.
So please pay close attention to every step.
What You Need Before Starting (Prerequisites Explained)
Make sure everything is ready before you begin.
1. Windows 11 25H2 ISO File
This is the official Windows installation file.
You can download it from: Microsoft’s official website
Or the Google Drive link provided in the description
2. USB to SATA Adapter
If you don’t have one: You can connect the drive directly inside a desktop PC using SATA cables
3. GImageX Tool - This tool applies Windows directly to the disk.
It replaces the traditional USB installation method.
4. A Working Windows PC
You need: Windows 8, 10, or 11
Administrator access
Enough free space
⚠️ VERY IMPORTANT WARNING (2.5-inch Laptop HDDs)
Some 2.5-inch laptop HDDs do NOT support 12V power from desktop power supplies.
If you connect SATA power directly:
The 12V line can permanently damage the HDD PCB
Warranty will be void
Data may be lost forever
Safe options: Use a USB-to-SATA adapter (recommended)
Or disable the 12V (yellow wire) using a spare SATA extension cable
Use a multimeter if wires are not color-coded
Step 1 – Log In to the Working Windows Computer
This system will only be used to prepare the old laptop’s disk.
Step 2 – Connect the Old Laptop HDD/SSD
Connect the drive using: USB to SATA adapter (recommended)
Or direct SATA connection inside a desktop PC
Windows should detect the drive automatically.
Step 3 – Open Command Prompt as Administrator
Step 4 – Open DiskPart
In Command Prompt, type: diskpart
Press Enter.
Step 5 – List All Connected Disks
Type: list disk
Example:
Disk 0 → Main system disk
Disk 1 → USB drive
Disk 2 → Old laptop SSD (example)
Step 6 – Identify the Correct Disk (VERY IMPORTANT)
Match the disk size carefully.
Example: Old SSD = 120GB
Disk shows ~111GB → That’s your disk
⚠️ If you select the wrong disk, your working PC data may be deleted.
Step 7 – Select the Old Disk
Example: select disk 2
Step 8 – Clean the Disk (Deletes Everything)
⚠️ This erases all data.
clean
Step 9 – Convert Disk to MBR (For Old Systems)
convert mbr
MBR provides better compatibility with older BIOS systems.
Step 10 – Create the Boot Partition
Create 512MB boot partition: create partition primary size=512
Format as FAT32: format fs=fat32 quick
Mark as bootable (BIOS): active
Assign drive letter: assign
🧠 Why FAT32? UEFI firmware can read FAT32 boot files.
Step 11 – Create the Windows Installation Partition
Use remaining space:
create partition primary
format fs=ntfs quick
assign
🧠 Why NTFS?
Windows files are larger than 4GB.
Step 12 – Verify Partitions
You should now see:
512MB FAT32 → Boot partition
Large NTFS → Windows partition
Step 13 – Extract Windows 11 ISO
Extract using:
WinRAR
7-Zip
Wait until extraction completes.
Step 14 – Extract GImageX
Extract GImageX to any folder.
Step 15 – Run GImageX as Administrator
Open extracted folder
Choose x64 or x86
Right-click → Run as administrator
Step 16 – Apply Windows Image
Go to Apply tab
Click Browse (Source)
Select: Extracted_ISO\Sources\install.wim
Step 17 – Select Destination Drive
Select the large NTFS partition.
⚠️ Do NOT select the 512MB partition.
Step 18 – Choose Windows Edition
Click Select and choose the edition.
Example: Windows 11 Pro → Image 6
Step 19 – Apply Image
Verification → Optional (unchecked saves time)
Click Apply
Wait until 100% complete
Do NOT interrupt.
Step 20 – Create Boot Records (BIOS + UEFI)
Open Command Prompt as Administrator and run: bcdboot F:\Windows /s E: /f ALL
/f ALL creates boot files for both BIOS and UEFI systems.
Step 21 – Remove the SSD Safely
Safely Remove may not work due to Windows files.
✅ Best option:
Shut down the system Then remove the drive
Step 22 – Reinstall Disk in Old Laptop
Reinstall the SSD/HDD
Secure it properly
Step 23–Boot the Old Laptop
Power on the laptop.
Windows setup will start automatically.
Example system tested:
Intel i3-3110M
12GB RAM
🧠 More RAM = smoother Windows 11
Step 24–Skip Microsoft Account (Optional)
At setup screen: Press Shift + F10
Type: OOBE\BYPASSNRO
Press Enter
System restarts
