2026: Dinner with Jeffrey’s Foodie and Oenophile gang

Описание: Mother Darling received a message from my Aunt Daphne’s friend Jeffrey to join him for dinner on Sunday night. He meets regularly with a group of his foodie and oenophile pals, where they bring their own bottles to enjoy with their meals. Jeffrey thought we might like to go with them to Imperial Treasure Fine Shanghainese Cuisine on Sunday evening. We were free!

Imperial Treasure is a chain of high end restaurants that focus on different types of Chinese cuisine - and guests are almost always assured of an excellent experience. Their restaurants are located throughout Asia and some locations have been awarded Michelin recognition. Dining at an Imperial Treasure can be very rewarding and I was particularly interested in trying this location’s Shanghainese cuisine. It has been over 20 years since I was in Shanghai, and I have come to realize I used to suffer from what Fuschia Dunlop calls “Cantonese bias”. China is a large country with incredibly diverse regional cultures - the dialects don’t even understand each other. In the past few years I have been wanting to know more of the regional cuisines, and was excited by the prospect trying Shanghainese food.

Jeffrey did all the ordering and he made excellent choices. Even the cold appetizers like century egg or even pig’s ear are things I may have have wanted to try in the past, but I approached the experience with curiosity. It was most rewarding - everything was excellent. Only the pork in sesame, I felt was mediocre, and one dish did not need the western affectation of truffle oil, but everything else had something to enjoy deeply.

All the wines brought were excellent. Though I was grateful for the bottle of Dom, one couple brought an Amarone they had been cellaring for 20 years. Loved it!
