The Samurai Damascus Watch – OVD Ronin Review (Ti-Damascus Dial)

Today we take a look at one of the most unique microbrand watches I’ve reviewed — the OVD Ronin, a Damascus steel watch inspired by the spirit of the Samurai.

This particular model, the RON-02 Toyotomi, features a Damascus steel case, crown, caseback, and buckle, paired with a stunning Ti-Damascus dial that changes colors depending on the light.

Each watch is completely unique thanks to the natural grain patterns created through the Damascus steel forging process.

Inside the watch we have the reliable Miyota 9015 automatic movement, beating at 28,800 vibrations per hour with a power reserve of approximately 42 hours.

While the lume is not the strongest part of this watch, the green tone of the indexes gives the dial the impression that the lume is always active during daylight.

The original leather strap has a great design inspired by the handle wrap of a samurai sword, but it feels oversized and not as robust as expected. I personally prefer wearing this watch on a black rubber strap, while keeping the Damascus buckle for the full aesthetic.

OVD is a microbrand that doesn’t receive a lot of attention in the mainstream watch world, but they produce some truly unique and artistic designs that stand out from the usual offerings.

If you enjoy watches with interesting materials and bold designs, the Ronin is definitely worth a look.
