Korean retail chain Lotte Mart is suffering millions of dollars in losses.... due to business suspensions in China.... in the wake of Seoul's decision to deploy the THAAD missile defense system.
Of Lotte's 99 outlets in China,... 74 have been suspended for fire safety violations.
Lotte officials say they have fixed the problems and requested another inspection,... but Chinese authorities have told them to wait.
The company estimates its losses through March at around 175 million U.S. dollars.
On top of that, Lotte has been paying full salaries to some 13-thousand Chinese workers, at a cost of about eight million dollars last month.
More than 70 outlets have been suspended for a month, but most haven't received further notification from China.
Six have had their suspensions extended for a second month.
Another 13 outlets have closed voluntarily.
