37688 Thrash... and denial [🎤ML Collab🎤] | NYMR | 2025/06/14

Originally uploaded as a two-part video, the two videos have now been split, with Mark kindly reworking his sounds to bring back in the 'rasp' of the exhaust.

In the previous release Mark's sounds formed the second half of the video but we later decided this did not sound true-to-life with the throbbing of the engine/pistons being too prominent and the 'rasp' of the exhaust barely noticeable.

English Electric Type 3, Class 37, 37688, absolutely hammering it up Goathland incline at the North Yorkshire Moors Railway Diesel Gala, until suddenly it wasn't. 37688 was on full power for a solid 4 mins and 45 seconds before failing 3/4 of the way up the Goathland Incline. A real shame as the sound of the engine throbbing at full bore was very defined in this loco.

Please note: No official statement was published by the owners (D05 Preservation Group) although some pictures shared much later showed a traction motor cable blew.

Full credit to the team that made the effort to try and get it running for the gala, it was the highlight of the whole gala for me even with it's failure 3/4 of the way up the bank.
