A ballistic missile fired from Iran crossed Iraqi and Syrian airspace and was heading into Turkish airspace before NATO air and missile defence systems destroyed it over the eastern Mediterranean on Wednesday. Turkey's Defence Ministry confirmed no casualties and issued a stark warning Ankara reserves the right to respond. It is the first time Iran has directly threatened a NATO member state in the current conflict. Turkey, which shares a 500-kilometre border with Iran, had been urging de-escalation and warning against regime change. The war that began over Tehran five days ago has now reached Turkish airspace.

Pro-Iran resistance groups claim they shot down the US military's KC-135 Stratotanker refueling aircraft with a missile over western Iraq on March 12 during a mission linked to Operation Epic Fury. It also claimed that all crew members on board were killed. However, the United States Central Command has denied that the crash was caused by hostile or friendly fire and says rescue and recovery teams were immediately deployed to the crash site. Officials have not yet confirmed the number of crew members or their condition. The KC-135 — a key aerial refueling aircraft used by the United States Air Force and built by Boeing — has been a backbone of U.S. long-range air operations for more than six decades.


Buildings in Dubai shook on Friday after loud explosions were heard, and a thick cloud of smoke rose over a central part of the city. One AFP correspondent said they felt their building shake and heard a strong blast.
