Geoff, Jeremy, and Mike, trying out Geoff's new musket.
The musket is a 1777 French Army Pattern musket, commonly called a "Charleville" after the main armory that produced them.
Some were used late in the revolutionary war by regular soldiers, not common in militia.
The gun is a .693 caliber barrel. We were shooting .675 hand cast lead balls. Barrel length is 46". Smoothbore, no rifling.
The wadding was .010 thick lubricated cotton patches.
The flint is a standard 1" hand cut english flint.
We used 70 grains of FFg black powder as the primary charge.
They were supposed to be accurate up to 50 yards. We empirically discovered that this is relatively true.
