Dr. Jayanthi Kumaresh is a globally acclaimed Saraswati veena maestro and an ambassador of Carnatic classical music. Hailing from a lineage of six generations of musicians, she has dedicated over four decades to mastering and innovating within the realm of Indian classical music. A disciple of her mother, Lalgudi Rajalakshmi, and later S. Balachander, she has refined a unique style that blends technical brilliance with emotive depth.
Her performances captivate audiences worldwide, whether as a soloist, in jugalbandis with Hindustani musicians, or in ensembles featuring percussion and orchestral accompaniments. She has graced prestigious venues such as the Darbar Festival, BBC Proms, and Dover Lane Music Conference, enchanting listeners with her profound understanding of ragas and intricate improvisations.
Raga Pantuvarali is a powerful and deeply expressive raga in Carnatic music, known for its intense, meditative, and devotional qualities. A derivative of the 51st Melakarta raga, Kamavardhini, it closely resembles Raga Purvi in Hindustani music. Its unique blend of major and minor tones creates a strikingly emotive atmosphere, making it a favorite for compositions on devotion and spirituality.
At the Darbar Festival 2024, Dr. Jayanthi Kumaresh brought out the grandeur of Pantuvarali on the Saraswati veena. Her rendition showcased the raga’s depth through intricate phrases, soul-stirring alapana, and masterful gamakas, leaving the audience in a state of musical bliss.
Beyond performance, she is a composer, educator, and collaborator, continuing to push the boundaries of the veena while preserving its rich heritage for future generations.
