Master Chief - Digital Painting/Photobash exercise

Описание: Recently I did a poll on instagram and X, about what to paint next, between Master Chief, Gundam and Kamen Rider, and Chief got the most vote, so here we are! Had no idea what to do so I just randomly look for old cameras to start with, I found this really cool one with just the right amount of contrast, soft and hard materials.

Been many years since I did a fan art of chief, I love the original trilogy, but i also think the redesign of chief in Halo 4 is awesome as heck, love the mechanical, tank and functional look, so thats what im going for in this piece. Halo is the main reason why I became a concept artist in the first place, inspired by Wang Shi Kai from Bungie, who did a really cool sketch of Master chief and it stayed with me since. I even got to work with him eventually on the Destiny series. It was a dream come true.

Some FAQs & Disclaimer:

1. This is Photoshop 2025, on a desktop, with a Wacom Cintiq Pro 24, any tabletop tablet would work just as great. Canvas size is international paper A4 size @ 300 dpi.

3. I'm a professional concept artist in the gaming industry for the past decade, but I've been drawing digitally for more than 15 years. I've worked on Destiny 2, Valorant, Gears 4 & 5, Halo: Infinite, Call of Duty series, Anthem, Mortal Kombat X, and so on.
4. Currently I don't have mentorships or online classes to offer, I used to teach concept art at an art college but stopped due to work, but that might change later this year as I plan to also get back into the educational field and will start online classes.
5. Photobashing is not recommended for beginners, it's easy to be overwhelmed by it or become reliant on photos to produce artwork. Photobashing is a technique concept artists commonly use to speed up the creation process, it allows us to produce more artworks within a certain amount of time compared to hand-drawing all of it, it still takes a lot from one's visual library and painting fundamentals. It's a fun technique to explore but if you're just starting in digital art I would not recommend focusing on it, foundation matters! For starters, I'd recommend doing more photo studies, material ball studies, figure drawing, etc.
