2014 Honda CRV: AWD relay replacement. FYI: The AWD Light has to be ON to Read the Faulty Code.

Описание: FYI: For a technician (dealer, mechanic, etc) to diagnose this problem, the AWD has to be on while he is doing the diagnosis. If the light is off they will not find any fault codes.

During the winter of 2019 my car had the yellow AWD warning light on while I was driving on the highway and the outside temperature was about 30 oF (-1 oC). It stayed on for the remainder of the drive (~20 mins). Next day it was fine. It hapened once more during the winter. On November of 2020 it hapened again. I did some research and came accross the Honda Bulletin 15-012 with a DTC code C1850-14. It describes what I have seen and points out to a faulty AWD relay.
Seeing that it was an moderate to easy task for an untrained person, I decided to do it myself.
I used the Trailer Hitch installation instructions # All 13158 to access and replace the relay.
The relay is an Omron G8HL-H71 12V DC 120 Ohm, Honda p/n 39794-SDA-A02 or 39794-SDA-A03 or 39794-SDA-A05. From other reviews it is used for the A/C as well.
The one that came with the car says made in China, the one that I got says made in USA.
Relay was bought on Amazon for $12.00 a pair.
Replaced the relay in November 2020. Will see if the light comes back on during this winter. If it turns out not to be the relay, there is another bulletin with a much more involved and expensive repair, which I would be unable to perform. This second bulletin A15-016 with DTC code C1858-73, involves changing the solenoid in the rear differential.

Update: Next day when I started the car the light came back on. Figures!!!! It went away after I turned off the car and started it again after work. It has been one week w/o issues. Bought an OBD reader plugged it in but could not find any codes, I think the light has to be on for the code to show up. It is getting chilly, so I assume if it still has the issue the light will come back on, I am keeping the OBD reader in the car to check for the code when that happens.

Update: Three weeks after installation, the light came back on again. It was 22 oF (-5.5 oC). Tried the OBD reader while the light was on but did not detect any codes, OBS must be bad. I guess, I just need to bite the bullet and take it to the shop.

Update: AWD came back on, 24oF this morning. Tried the OBD reader and nothing. This is a Walmart HT309 OBD-2 Reader. Getting the ANCEL AD410 from Amazon, will update after testing it.

Update: The ANCEL AD410 does not give me any codes either, tested while the AWD warning was light on. Unsure which OBD2 Reader would work with this problem.

Update: Returned the ANCEL AD410 and tried the ANCEL JP700, supposedly specific for japanese cars, tested while the AWD warning was light on. This reader not worked either, and was returned as well.

Update: Swapped for a new relay and the AWD light came back on.

Update: Took the car to the shop. They NEED to have the AWD warning light ON to be able to diagnose the error code, so I had to wait with the ignition on until the technician was able to come out and check for the code. It turned out to be the solenoid, total cost for the replacement was $560 for everything: EDPS solenoid assembly, drain and refill rear differential fluid, gasket replacement, o-rings replacement and labor. Parts was about $180, and $380 charged for labor. Hopefully this solves the problem.

Update: Changing the solenoid seems to have fixed the problem, have not have an issue since the replacement.
