Professor William Schabas is one of the world's leading experts on genocide. The Canadian scholar has taught international human rights law and international criminal law at numerous universities worldwide. He served on the Truth and Reconciliation Commission for Sierra Leone and led the United Nations investigation into the 2014 Israel-Gaza conflict. Professor Schabas has also advised both the International Criminal Court (ICC) and the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on matters relating to genocide prevention and accountability. With more than twenty books and hundreds of academic publications to his name, he is widely regarded as one of the most influential voices in the global discourse on justice, collective memory, and the legal response to mass atrocities.
