Sino Steel (Tianjin) International Plaza is the world's first example of a hexagonal grid structure system implemented as the exterior tube of a supertall building. Research has shown the hexagonal grid structure to be able to efficiently withstand horizontal loadings but weak in vertical loading resistance. This presentation discusses the key design techniques which rendered this unique structural solution applicable to the high-rise realm.
