An astronaut in need of medical care is heading home from the International Space Station with three crewmates as Nasa conducts its first medical evacuation in 65 years of space flight. The US space agency has not specified which of the astronauts, who hail from the US, Russia and Japan, needs care. Splashdown is expected to happen in the Pacific off San Diego, California, early on the morning of January 15, 2026. The decision to return early shortens their mission by more than a month.
