Sleep is vital for your baby's development, and creating a safe sleep environment is crucial for their health and safety. In this video, we discuss the importance of sleep in your child's development, the benefits of rooming in, and how to reduce the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) using the ABCs of safe sleep.
A is for Alone: Your baby should sleep alone in their crib or bassinet, not in your bed. This reduces the risk of suffocation and SIDS.
B is for Back: Always place your baby on their back to sleep. This position has been shown to significantly lower the risk of SIDS.
C is for Crib or Bassinet: Ensure your baby sleeps in a safety-approved crib or bassinet, free of pillows, blankets, toys, and other soft items that could pose a hazard.
We’ll also explore how to help your baby establish a healthy sleep routine, understanding their sleep cycles, and the importance of night feedings—especially for breastfed babies. By creating a clear distinction between day and night through routines and environment, your baby will gradually learn to sleep more during the night.
This video also touches on the leading cause of death for infants under one year old, SIDS, and offers practical tips on how to prevent it, including maintaining a smoke-free environment, ensuring your baby’s crib is safe, and placing your baby on their back to sleep.
