My journey into wildlife filmmaking started long before I ever picked up a camera professionally. Africa’s wilderness has always had a way of pulling me back, and this trip to the Kruger National Park became a testing ground for something I had dreamed about for years — telling real wildlife stories through film.
In March 2023 my dad and I spent 11 unforgettable days exploring Kruger National Park, working together as a small two-man team. He drove the long safari roads while I focused on filming, watching the bush and trying to capture moments that felt authentic and cinematic.
This trip was special because it was one of the first times I fully committed to pursuing wildlife filmmaking as a profession. I had recently moved completely into the Sony ecosystem and was shooting with the Sony A7S III, experimenting with how far I could push the camera in real safari conditions.
March in Kruger can be unpredictable. We had a fair amount of rain, but the reward was a landscape that was incredibly lush and alive. The bushveld was thick, green and full of activity, which made for beautiful filming conditions.
For the first part of the trip we stayed near Skukuza, including one unforgettable night where we played a round of golf at the Skukuza Golf Course — arguably one of the wildest golf courses in the world. It’s not uncommon to see wildlife wandering across the fairways, and it perfectly captures the spirit of Kruger: nature always comes first.
After that we moved north to Satara Camp, one of my favourite areas in the park and a fantastic base for exploring predator territory.
Within the first few days we were already rewarded with incredible sightings — hyenas, African wild dogs, vibrant bee-eaters and some of the most beautiful birdlife the African bush has to offer. Moments like these are why Kruger remains one of the most extraordinary wildlife destinations on Earth.
This film is the beginning of documenting that journey — learning the craft of wildlife storytelling, spending time in the field, and building experience with every sighting and every sunrise.
More than anything, it’s about the dream of becoming a wildlife filmmaker, and the privilege of sharing that experience with my dad as we explored one of Africa’s greatest wilderness areas together.
If you enjoy wildlife, conservation, and cinematic safari storytelling, welcome to the journey.
