Kamadgiri is the main holy place of Chitrakoot Dham . The Sanskrit word ‘Kamadgiri’ means the mountain which fulfills all the wishes and desires. The place is believed to have been the abode of Lord Ram, Sita and Laxman during their exile. Lord Kamtanath, another of His names, is the Ishta Deva principal deity not only of Kamadgiri Parvat but of the whole of Chitrakoot. The religious-minded believe that all the holy places (i.e. teerthas) are in the Parikrama or its pilgrimage-path. The pilgrimage path around this hill is about 5 Km long. There are a large number of temples in the Parikrama Path. Except during the summers, the place remains green throughout the year and appears like a bow seen from any place in Chitrakoot.
Kamadgiri, also known as the heart of Chitrakoot or the original Chitrakoot, is a hill believed to have been home to Goddess Sita, Lord Rama, and Lord Lakshmana during their exile. It is said that those who perform a ritual circumambulation, or parikrama, around the hill will receive divine blessings. The 5 km path of the parikrama is dotted with temples, and many pilgrims sing hymns and chant as they make their way around the hill. The Shri Kamta Nath Mandir is a particularly important temple at this site. The fragrance of incense and the spiritual atmosphere make this a truly unique and sacred experience.
Ram Ghat Chitrakoot
Ram Ghat, located on the banks of Mandakini River, is among the most visited religious destinations in Uttar Pradesh. Just find a spot on the stairs leading to the ghat and sit down for a while. You will feel the serenity in the air.
Ram Ghat, which is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Uttar Pradesh, is believed to be the place where Lord Rama, Goddess Sita and Lord Laxman held an elaborate conversation with Saint Goswami Tulsidas. This is a major reason why it occupies a special place in the hearts and minds of the people.
Though it may share several features with other ghats in India, there is one aspect in which it stands out from the others. The ghat offers boating facilities to the tourists, and you can find these boats lining the steps leading to the river. A massive statue of Lord Hanuman stands in one corner of thee ghat, blessing everyone who visits it. There are several benches which let you sit and observe everyday life at the ghat.
