This is where the soul of a man never dies.’” High praise for an extraordinary talent.

This 1964 live performance, recorded in Bremen, Germany, is a rare gem for any true Howlin' Wolf fan. Skipping over the obvious hits, the set instead features deeper cuts like “I Didn’t Mean To Hurt Your Feelings,” “All My Life,” and “Goin’ Down Slow,” the latter a key track from his iconic 1962 Rocking Chair album.

In this performance, Wolf is at his most liberated, stretching his songs beyond the confines of radio singles to offer fuller, richer versions. Backed by an exceptional band—Hubert Sumlin on guitar, Willie Dixon on bass, and Clifton James on drums—Wolf gives his players room to shine, showcasing their virtuosity alongside his own commanding presence.

The concert was part of the famed American Folk-Blues Tour, a series of European shows that ran from 1962 to 1970. It was during these tours that Wolf's electrifying performances helped ignite the British Blues explosion, influencing rock legends like the Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Jeff Beck, and Eric Clapton.

Wolf recognized the power of his influence, saying, “Well I’ll tell you, there’s nothing wrong with that. I want all of them to make my records, because I gets money out of it, see.” Smart, commanding, and profoundly talented, there was truly only one Howlin' Wolf.
