A US drone strike has killed three members, including a high-ranking commander of the Kataib Hezbollah militia linked to the drone that killed 3 US troops in Jordan.
US Central Command confirmed the vehicle carrying the three members was struck in Baghdad on Wednesday around 9.30 pm.
According to the Associated Press and local news outlet Sabereen News, senior commander Abu Baqir al-Saadi was killed in the blast.
Following the drone attack, CENTCOM posted to X confirming the death of the three Hezbollah members.
“At 9.30 pm (Baghdad Time) February 7, US Central Command (CENTCOM) forces conducted a unilateral strike in Iraq in response to the attacks on US service members, killing a Kata’ib Hezbollah commander responsible for directly planning and participating in attacks on US forces in the region. There are no indications of collateral damage or civilian casualties at this time,” it said.
The drone strike comes days after the US launched a barrage of air assaults on multiple sites controlled by Iran-backed rebels in Iraq and Syria.
The US strike came as retaliation following the deaths of three US troops on January 28 in Jordan.
