Crude prices are surging again after fresh attacks near the Strait of Hormuz - one of the world’s most critical oil routes carrying nearly 20% of global supply.
Prices jumped sharply:
• Brent Crude near $99 per barrel
• West Texas Intermediate above $93
• Oil gained over 7% overnight
The spike has rattled financial markets.
India’s benchmark indices opened lower, with the BSE Sensex falling over 800 points and the Nifty 50 dropping more than 200 points in early trade.
Reports say Iran attacked two foreign oil tankers, and a drone strike hit a fuel tank in an Omani port, escalating tensions in the region.
Even the International Energy Agency plan to release a record 400 million barrels of emergency oil reserves has failed to calm markets.
