Hello everyone!
Mainz is a historic city located on the banks of the Rhine. It is the capital of the federal state of Rhineland-Palatinate and has a rich history dating back to the times of Ancient Rome.
Mainz is a city with beautiful parks and squares, with remarkable architecture, displaying different eras.
One of the main attractions of the city is the Mainz Cathedral, which contains the huge tomb of St. William, the patron saint of Germany.
During our walk along Marktplatz we had to visit and examine the Heunensäule monument, erected in 1975 and representing a smooth stone column. But it has historical value because in its base are stored several hats, characterizing the life of Mainz from many different sides.
Another important artifact here is the medieval Marktbrunnen fountain, built on the site of an ordinary well and decorated with unusual sculptural compositions.
Next to Marktplatz there is another beautiful fountain, from which our journey began.
