On Saturday 6 September 2008, the Victorian Goldfields Railway held the "Picnic at Muckleford" event featuring steam on show. This video shows the various trains run thoughout the day hauled by steam locomotives K160, J515 or J541 and also DERM 61RM.
Hightlights of this video are K160, J515 and J541 with a triple header from Maldon to Castlemaine, K160 with a mixed train from Castlemaine to Maldon, J541 and J515 double heading with a pass to Maldon and K160 with a passenger train to Castlemaine.
The Victorian Goldfields Railway operates the former VR branch line from Castlemaine to Maldon in the central goldfields region of Victoria, Australia. The line is typical of many "pioneer branch lines" that were built around the country with heavy 1 in 40 grades and sharper curves.
The railway is operated by volunteers with steam trains operating on Sundays and Wednesdays throughout the year except on days of high fire danger. For more information please visit http://www.vgr.com.au
A trimmed down version of this video was previously uploaded in 480p in the early days of my channel ( • Black Smoke and Heavy Grades - VGR Steam o... ). The original was shot in high definition, so enjoy this re-encoded and extended HD version
