You might have heard that the best way to deal with smells coming from your RV toilet is with a holding tank deodorizer, but it's important to know how to use these correctly to get best results.
1. Drop one in every 5 to 7 days, depending on how many people are living in your RV
2. Make sure you add enough water! We recommend 1.25 gallons of water for every 5 gallons of tank, so for a typical 40 gallon tank, that's 6 gallons of water. This is critical because the deodorizer can only treat waste and paper that falls BELOW the water line.
3. If you're following these steps, emptying the tank properly (when it's about 2/3 full), and still noticing odor coming from the tank, you should drop in one packet of a stronger holding tank cleaner called Commando. Commando contains enzymes that digest any residual waste and restore your sensors to working properly. Just drop in one packet of Commando and wait about 12 hours (or longer, it won't hurt the tank).
