The Flemish theatre Ensemble Leporello developed a unique style of play,
where text, movement, choreography, and—first and foremost—rhythm are combined in a form of pure theatre on an empty stage. Leporello's artistic director, Dirk Opstaele, created theatre plays where the collective, the choir, functions as a character, a scenography, a soundscape. His masters and inspirators are Jacques Lecoq, Peter Brook, Pina Bausch, Fernand Schirren, Moshe Leiser and Patrice Caurier, Ruben Lifschitz...
This short video is made from (low quality) archival footage of Leporello's productions: Britannis, The Last Party, Simon Boccanegra, Bekket, Britannis, Antigone, Isma, Waiting for Godot, 1 Tartuffe, Macbeth Reloaded, Disparus and more. Ensemble Leporello was founded in 1985 and is the oldest independent theatre group in Belgium.
