The ranch was established south of White Lake Playa and is currently off of North Virginia Street, parallel to U.S. Highway 395. Heinz Ranch was present at the start of Cold Springs and continues operation today. Cold Springs is one of the communities farthest north in Nevada, resting at the Nevada-California border 20 minutes from Reno.

Students of Cold Springs attend Nancy Gomes Elementary School, followed by Cold Springs Middle School. The Washoe County School District serves high schoolers through the North Valleys High School in neighboring Golden Valley. Alternative high school education is provided through Truckee Meadows Community College, allowing students the opportunity to earn early college credit. TMCC is in Sun Valley next to the Desert Research Institute overlooking the Reno valley below.

The community center offers a baseball field, playground, and walking trails, making this recreation area highly frequented by residents of all ages.

Cold Springs Family Center hosts regular community events and celebrations, in addition to serving as one of the best gyms in the area. When you want to grab a bite to eat, Village Grill is within the surrounding park of the family center. Bonanza Casino is one of the only casinos in the north valleys, providing a casino, players club, and the Cactus Creek Prime Steakhouse. Sierra Sage Golf Course is the only North Valleys golf course, featuring putting greens, a driving range, pro shop, and the brand new Pub at Sierra Sage.

Sky Vista Shopping Center found on Lemmon Drive is the closest shopping mall to the neighborhood. Sky Vista provides a Smith’s, Grocery Outlet Bargain Market, Walmart Supercenter, CVS, Walgreens, and a Saint Mary’s Urgent Care. A few minutes away on Golden Valley Road, the North Hills Shopping Center includes a Raley’s, the North Valleys Library, and Anytime Fitness. You’ll also find the food hot spots Steak n’ Shake, Sizzling Wok and Sushi, Peg’s Glorified Ham and Eggs, and Longboards Beach Fired Pizza.
