History | How did Nehru Become the 1st PM?
In the Cabinet mission plan, it was decided that congress’s president would be the first pm of the country.
During the elections for the Congress President in 1946, both Jawaharlal Nehru and Vallabhbhai Patel were contenders.
Back then, Congress party had established 15 PCCs in various provinces and they were the ones to vote.
Out of 15, Sardar VallaBhai Patel got 12 votes and 3 didn’t cast the vote. So, the clear winner was Patel ji.
But how did Nehru become the pm. Nehru was not ready to take the second position.
Then interfered Gandhi ji and asked Patel ji to withdraw. Eventually out of respect, sardar Valla Bhai Patel sacrificed the position.
I believe this the biggest mistake Gandhi did.
A man who could unite 562 princely states to India definitly has the capability to govern India as the PM.
We would have seen a different Kashmir if he was the pm.
