1-day old orphaned free-tailed bat

Описание: This tiny free-tailed bat was found orphaned at about a day old with no roost in sight. He is nursing warm milk formula from a foam eye-shadow applicator tip that has been removed from the wand. When he is full he will spit the tip out all on his own. When he is about three months old he will be adult-sized and flying. At that time he will be released to the wild to eat about 20-Million insects during his life-span of 15 to 20 years.

It is baby season and young bats are being found grounded for various reasons like storms, bird attacks, over-crowded roosts, etc. If you find a bat please remember to use gloves or a towel when rescuing him/her as the bat will be frightened and may bite in self-defense. (We are trained and vaccinated to handle bats so we sometimes use bare hands as it allows better tactile sensitivity and control.)
