'Could have been a lot worse': Andrew Hastie on Chinese naval incident with Australia

Divers from the Royal Australian Navy suffered minor injuries after an interaction between the HMAS Toowoomba and a navy destroyer from the People's Liberation Army during a routine operation last week.

"If you understand what a sonar does, it sends pressure waves," he told Sky News Australia.

"Our divers could have experienced a sinus rupture, an eardrum rupture, damage to their lungs and other tissue including their brain.

"So this was very risky."
