Our First Bikepacking Trip in Morocco…

Our first bikepacking trip through Morocco, it's never what you expect what it's gonna be. And that's why traveling by bike is so iconicity perfect. Also, it reminded me that sometimes slowing down is actually what speeds up the mind. The kilometers looked very different from what I’m 'used' to, but the experience was maybe even richer because of that, having time to really look around and experience the places and the landscapes. I did watercolor a lot and on the strip I created all my idea's and sketches for the show at Art Rotterdam (25-27 March). All the paintings and fences are inspired by Morocco!

With this video, I want to show more than just the romanticized side of bikepacking. Not only the highs, but also the harder moments. In the end, you mostly remember the magical, iconic parts, but the lows are exactly what make those highs feel even better.

We traveled through Morocco during a period of heavy rainfall. At one point, the road was closed because of falling rocks, we even witnessed rocks coming down just a few meters away from us.

A practical tip: bring gas canisters with the ‘prik’ (pierceable) system. The screw-on ones are very hard to find. On our first day in Marrakech, we spent about four hours searching in different shops without success…
