Jazz re:freshed and Discos Pacífico are proud to share 'CALIMA' — an album born from the encounter between London-based collective Balimaya Project and Colombian ensemble Discos Pacífico All Stars. Created in Tumaco in April 2025, this unique album shows how music continues to be a powerful, invisible thread uniting the African diaspora.

Balimaya Project meets Discos Pacífico All Stars is a sonic journey that intertwines the powerful rhythms and rich musical legacy of West Africa with the Afro-Colombian pulse of marimba, drums, and Pacific chants. Centred on an international exchange, shaping a new musical narrative in real time. Together, the artists bridge continents and generations—drawing on deep-rooted traditions while forging new sounds through collaboration, composition, and live experimentation. Reflecting on the significance of the album’s title

CALIMA: Saharan dust that travels across the sky from West Africa, crosses the Atlantic, passes through the Amazon, and reaches Colombia’s Pacific coast — a natural bridge connecting two continents to create life.
