Trial By Ordeal - BRUTAL Medieval Justice

Описание: I'm sure throughout history you are aware of Witch trials in which women accused of witchcraft were thrown into water. You may also have heard of duels that are sometimes labelled 'Trial by Combat.' In this video we look at the rather strange and brutal concept of Trial by Ordeal that was used in the Early Middle Ages and Medieval period. Trial by Ordeal was where someone accused of a crime was made to undergo a rather painful and harrowing experience in order to portray their innocence or guilt. The idea was linked heavily to the church and that God would be the ultimate judge of innocence or guilt.

Now in terms of the barbaric practices which were used you had many such as Trial by Fire. This was where a red hot piece of iron was used to burn the accused, if the wounds after 3 days had healed then the accused would be classed as innocent. Witchcraft trials often featured trial by water, in which a woman who floated was deemed to be actually guilty and therefore would later be executed.
