As the Mining Indaba concludes this week, our Res Rep shares a timely reflection on what it will take for Africa to truly benefit from its critical minerals wealth.
Africa has a unique opportunity to ensure its mineral resources translate into shared prosperity, stronger economies, and long-term resilience.
This means:
Reforming and building strong African financial systems that can unlock inclusive industrialisation
Advancing policy and governance frameworks that reflect African development realities
Enabling local value addition and industrialisation across critical minerals value chains
Critical minerals can be a driver of a more inclusive and equitable future — if harnessed strategically, and on terms that deliver lasting benefits for people and communities.
