Welcome back to Pickleball Around the Bay! In this video, we take an in-depth look at the Paul Moore Park pickleball courts in San Jose, California, located at 1426 Hillsdale Ave at the corner of Hillsdale and Cherry. If you’re looking for pickleball courts in San Jose with lights, an active community, and free open play, this is a facility you’ll want to know about.
Paul Moore Park features six lighted pickleball courts with overlaid pickleball and tennis lines, managed by volunteers through the San Jose Pickleball Club. The club is very active, offering regular social events and a WhatsApp channel to help players connect. If you plan on playing pickleball regularly in San Jose, joining the club is highly recommended. I’ve included helpful links in the description.
In this review, I cover:
Court layout, orientation, and clearances
Temporary net quality and paddle rack system
Open play rules (2-on/2-off or 4-on/4-off)
Lighting hours (courts stay lit until 10pm)
Community vibe and skill-level play times
Court surface condition and debris issues
Seating, fencing, and windscreens
While the pickleball community here is friendly and very active, the court surfaces are currently in poor condition, with resurfacing reportedly planned for spring 2026. Tree debris and limited seating are also things to be aware of, so bringing a folding chair and a broom or portable blower is a good idea.
☕ Nearby coffee: The closest option before or after play is the Starbucks on Foxworthy Ave.
🚗 Parking: Street parking available.
✅ Pros
Six pickleball courts
Lights for evening play
Free and open play
Very active pickleball community
Friendly, welcoming vibe
❌ Cons
Court surfaces in poor condition
Lightweight movable nets
Debris from overhanging trees
No seating
Overall rating: C+
