Monkey Nana is driving a tractor down the road when, suddenly, the ground shakes violently and a meteor crashes down right in front of him, filling the air with dust and smoke and leaving a deep crater that blocks the way. Nana panics and cries, “Oh no!”, but the important thing is that he doesn’t give up or just stand there—he immediately thinks of a way to fix the problem so the road can be safe to use again. Nana turns the tractor around to a nearby sand pit, loads a full tractorful of sand, then returns and pours it into the crater, patiently filling it bit by bit until it is no longer dangerous. Not stopping at simply “filling it in,” Nana also goes to get a road roller and flattens the surface, making the road smooth and clear again. The story therefore conveys that in life, setbacks can arrive as suddenly as a “meteor falling from the sky,” but if we stay calm, take initiative, use the resources around us, and finish the job properly, we can overcome obstacles in a steady way. When everything is finally back in order, Nana’s stomach starts to rumble with hunger; he drives to a watermelon field, harvests a tractorload of watermelons, brings them home, juices them, and drinks it happily—gently reminding us that after working hard to solve problems and do something helpful, we deserve to rest and enjoy the results of our labor.
