Bedlam Four - Hydrogen Atom (Or Mushrooms Are In) 1967

Описание: Bob Derrickson (lead guitar, vocals), Gary Orling (guitar), Randy Reymer (bass), Greg Huppert (keyboards, vocals) and Rick Baem (drums) formed The Echomen in 1965. They live in Hastings, MN. except Huppert who was from River Falls, WI. Like many bands at the time they covered popular surf instrumentals. In 1966, Reymer sadly died in a motorcycle accident (he was 18...). Orling and Baem left the band so Huppert moved to guitar and Bob Rasmussen (keyboards), Scott Cass (drums) and Jack Taylor (bass) joined the formation. A guy named Peter May took them into Dove Recording Studio in Minneapolis. Pete Steinberg was the sound engineer. "Long Green"/"Chocolate Chip" (Fox 1) was issued. The B-Side is a Derrickson's original. In Spring, 1966 Pogue joined the band as drummer and lead singer and Rasmussen left the band. In late, 1966 Pogue suggested to name the band Bedlam Four. The band played the local club circuit in Wisconsin, Minnesota and Michigan. In 1967 Dick Proach booked a studio session at Dove Recording Studio with engineer Rod Eaton. They recorded "I Just Want To Make Love To You" (Willie Dixon), "Blue, Blue Feeling" (Chuck Berry), "Born In Chicago" (Paul Butterfield) and "Watch It Baby" (Pogue). Derrickson sang on "Blue, Blue Feeling" and a unknown female singer joined Pogue for "Watch It Baby". "Watch It Baby"/"Blue, Blue Feeling" was issued on LeJac (3006). Ron Jerde invited the band into his basement where they recorded many songs included "Smokestack Lightning", "Puppet Man" (Derrickson), "Hydrogen Atom (Or Mushrooms Are In)" (Pogue) and a Moody Blues cover. "Psychedelic Mantra" and "No One Left To Love" were probably recorded during that session. The flip for "Hydrogen Atom..." was "Watch It Baby". Note that one of their friends, Gary Jollymore, played harp and do the spoken vocals at the end of the song. Billy Behr replaced Taylor on bass. The band broke up in Spring, 1968.
