Polyend Play & Roland SP-404 mk2 - Responding to Trolls

Here’s my jam for the Hardware Jams Weekend Challenge. These past few weeks there has been a story going on involving mountains and cabins and psytrance and whatnot. This weekend concludes the story with the appearance of trolls.

Having missed the first two segments of the story, I jump straight into confronting the trolls. I used a sample from the movie Billy Madison. I’m sure all of us have run across people on the internet who make us wonder whether they are trolling or stupid. This is one way of responding to that.

Music made with the Polyend Play and Roland SP-404 mk2. The Play is used as a drum machine here, playing a 6/8 beat with some polyrhythmic elements. Everything else is made from Microfreak samples on the 404.

Full disclosure: this jam was pasted together from two takes. I only did this because of technical difficulties with the recordings. For some reason, my recordings had some glitches, missing a few seconds of recordings in a couple places. So I didn’t have a complete take of my jam. Luckily, I had recorded a couple takes, one with trouble in the end, and the other with the ending intact. So I was able to put this together. The edit, switching from one take to another is at around 3:40. This kind of editing is not really in the spirit of live jamming, but I was so far into the video editing when I noticed, I couldn’t face restarting.
