What do you get when you mix first-time open water divers, one of the world’s most iconic dive sites, and the ocean deciding to show off?
This 💥
This short video captures Sue, Karen and Miskiet during their PADI Open Water course at Aliwal Shoal, South Africa — and honestly, it doesn’t get much more epic than this for a training dive.
Over the course of the dives, the ocean delivered in full technicolour:
🐬 Pods of dolphins cruising past
🐢 Turtles gliding effortlessly through the blue
🦈 Ragged-tooth sharks (raggies) doing what raggies do best
🛸 And majestic manta rays soaring overhead like underwater spacecraft
Not bad for a “learning dive”.
Aliwal Shoal is famous for big animals, big currents, and big moments — and this course had all three. Calm skills, growing confidence, and those unforgettable heart-stopping seconds when marine life appears out of the blue and reminds you exactly why you wanted to learn to dive in the first place.
An epic Open Water course, unforgettable conditions, and proof that sometimes the ocean really does save the best dives for the students 🤿🔥
If you’re thinking about learning to dive — this is what can happen.
