“Without great solitude, no serious work is possible.” ~ Pablo Picasso
While painting en plein air with my friends and students yesterday I learn without great solitude, no serious work is possible, but you can have a really fun time socially distancing your easels at least 6 feet apart and painting on a warm and lovely spring day at a beautiful, historic home in Brentwood, Tennessee. We even picnicked on the grounds and laughed and painted, and then the day turned almost magical. Without warning the Blue Angels did a low fly-by in perfect formation. You would have thought we had seen a whimsical fairy visiting for a fleeting moment! Eyes wide and jaws agape, we enjoyed their demonstration intended to honor the healthcare workers of Nashville.
On location I was only able to grab a moment to paint the underpainting before the sun moved and made it impossible to complete the painting intended from life. So you are invited to join my Patreon channel to see the work completed in the studio, as we work from our thumbnail sketches and reference photos to complete this piece.
