At Friday prayers in Baghdad, religious leaders continued their defiance in the face of looming conflict.
An American church leader visiting Iraq said US President George W. Bush had been told by his own church that his policy on Iraq was wrong.
Pierre Whalon, bishop in charge of the Convocation of American Churches in Europe, was holding a Mass at the Anglican church in Baghdad.
Meanwhile, members of a Turkish human shield group in Baghdad said on Monday that the Turkish parliament should not allow the use of US military bases in their country for deployment of US forces against Iraq.
Washington wants to use Turkey to open a northern front in a war in Iraq and Turkish and US officials have been in intense negotiations for weeks on the issue.
Turkish Prime Minister Abdullah Gul said he would make a statement on Friday on the US deployment.
