This is a piece I wrote a few years back, for the opening of an exhibit at Grace Cathedral in San Francisco. My collaborator, visual artist Anne Patterson, got me thinking about light and colors, specifically the journey of a beam of light through different atmospheres, textures, and speeds - obviously I'm toying with the laws physics here, but in the end it must make musical sense more than anything else... From the opening gesture of the beam of light shooting out of complete stillness and darkness to the final dance among the stars, I'm grateful for your presence on this musical journey.
