La ferrovia #Voghera-#Varzi, costruita per servire a livello locale gli abitanti della Valle Staffora, si articolava per gran parte lungo un terreno collinare, con un dislivello di 304 metri e una pendenza massima del 18 per mille. I lavori hanno inizio nel febbraio del 1926 e l’opera il 25 dicembre 1931, una volta ultimata, sostituì la tratta Voghera-Rivanazzano-Salice Terme, dal 1891 coperta da una tranvia a vapore, prolungandola fino a Varzi. Nonostante agli inizi degli anni Sessanta si ipotizzò di effettuare una serie di migliorie e potenziamenti, nel 1966 la Voghera-Varzi venne chiusa, così come altre ferrovie secondarie, perché ritenuta un ramo secco da tagliare. Un ramo che a distanza di così tanti anni è tornato a rivivere ancora grazie al progetto di recupero della Provincia di Pavia che ha trasformato la vecchia sede del treno in una Greenway.
Il tracciato ciclopedonale della Greenway Voghera-Varzi si snoda lungo la Valle Staffora, seguendo l’antico percorso della ferrovia elettrica che univa i due centri cittadini posti rispettivamente a valle e a monte. Complessivamente, i chilometri di pista ciclopedonale — in sede propria per la quasi totalità della sua estensione — sono 33 e si snodano tra campi, vitigni, piccoli boschetti e borghi storici.
Io ho percorso un breve tratto tra il bivio per Cecima ed il bivio per San Ponzo.

The Voghera-Varzi railway, built to serve the inhabitants of the Staffora Valley at a local level, was largely articulated along hilly terrain, with a difference in height of 304 meters and a maximum gradient of 18 per thousand. The works began in February 1926 and the work on 25 December 1931, once completed, replaced the Voghera-Rivanazzano-Salice Terme section, covered by a steam tramway since 1891, extending it up to Varzi. Although at the beginning of the 1960s it was hypothesized to carry out a series of improvements and upgrades, in 1966 the Voghera-Varzi line was closed, as were other secondary railways, because it was considered a dry branch to be cut. A branch that after so many years has come back to life again thanks to the recovery project of the Province of Pavia which has transformed the old train headquarters into a greenway.
The cycle/pedestrian route of the Voghera-Varzi Greenway winds along the Staffora Valley, following the old route of the electric railway that linked the two city centers located respectively downstream and upstream. Overall, there are 33 kilometers of cycle-pedestrian path - in its own place for almost the entirety of its extension - and they wind through fields, vineyards, small woods and historic villages.
I traveled a short distance between the crossroads for Cecima and the crossroads for San Ponzo.
