(16 Oct 2014) A student march in Mexico City to protest against the disappearance of 43 students from the state of Guerrero turned violent on Wednesday with masked protesters smashing the windows of the building of the Attorney General's Office and lighting a small fire.
Before the violence started, thousands of protesters closed part of Reforma Avenue, considered the most important thoroughfare in the capital and marched towards the Attorney General's Office building.
Protesters chanted "they took them alive, we want them back alive."
One protestor climbed the fence of the building and used red paint to spell "State murderer."
In Guerrero state, students and teachers blocked part of the highway that connects the state with Mexico City and asked for support from drivers as part of their protest.
The 43 students went missing in the city of Iguala on 26 September when municipal police officers attacked the buses they were travelling in.
Mexico's Attorney General said none of the missing students corresponded to the remains of 28 bodies found in mass graves discovered on October the 4th in Iguala.
He said that 50 people have been detained in connection with the case, most of whom are police officers.
Mexican authorities said they have sent mounted police and a dog unit to Iguala to help in the search efforts.
